I had a great time last week as I went to Malacca for a short trip away from work. To be frank, I was quite anticipating for the trip. Not only I could relax and enjoy all the good food, I was invited to watch a performance in Encore Melaka. (**What an honour!**)
The theater performance was opened to the public since 1st July 2018, directed by Wang Chaoge who was part of the creative force behind 2008 Beijing Olympics Games Opening and Closing Ceremony. When I knew that this performance is the 10th and newest offering from China's Impression Series where Zhang Yimou is one of the directors, I felt SUPER EXCITED about it! Few years ago, I watched one of its performances (Impression Sanjie Liu) in Zhangjiajie. The show was simply SPECTACULAR. (**Jaw-dropping, no joke**) It was so amazing that I can still remember it vividly.
Encore Melaka has the first 360 degree rotating audience platform in Southeast Asia and 240-meter long stage. The scenes of the show will change as the platform rotates. The hall can accommodate up to 2007 audiences. The show is performed by up to 200 local performers. In an approximately 75-minute show, there will be a 3D projection mapping that creates a virtual reality.
The followings are the details of the showtimes and ticket prices.
This is the counter area where you can buy your tickets on the spot.
I was impressed by the technology used to present the whole performance. It is definitely a unique experience. The performance was all about the untold stories of Melaka. Here's some snippets of the show. (**Teehee...**)
Okay, that's it. Enough of spoilers! Hahaha.
I will advice you to read the brief synopsis of the performance before the performance starts as the storyline can be quite difficult to understand at some points. In fact, I was somehow disappointed with its storyline although the presentation of the performance was pretty good. This is the leaflet that you can take from the ticket counters for better understanding of the show.
After the show, we were just in time for the sunset. The LED screen on the building and lights around it were turned on. It was beautiful :D
Ready, ready! Time for instagrammable photos!
Encore Melaka is located 15 minutes away from Jonker Street. You can reach here by taking the public transportation or driving your own car. The parking is for FREE.
Free shuttle bus services are provided, too. The buses or vans will stop by these few hotels. It is very convenient especially for those who visit Melaka without cars.
Just in case, you can't see the details clearly :D
Don't be late for the show as the entrance of the hall is actually the stage! You will need to wait approximately 20 minutes outside the hall until the stage starts to rotate to another side.
The ticket price will increase after 30th June 2019. So, hurry up and grab your tickets if you are interested!
I feel so proud that Malaysia has been chosen to become a part of Impression Series. We are definitely taking one big step in pursuing better work of art. I hope you enjoy this blog and find it helpful. See you next time! Bye :)
